The artists from 118 are running a program of art workshops over winter - something for everyone to get involved, try something new and have fun.
All bookings are made through Humanatix and will add a small fee which is donated to charity.


Cast a Silver Ring

Craft a unique organic-style silver ring in a private bush-clad studio. This immersive full-day workshop takes you beyond ring carving and into the world of traditional jewellery making. You'll design and carve your ring in wax before experiencing the magic of melting silver and transforming it into a solid silver piece that will last you a lifetime.
We provide up to 5g of silver per person, along with tea, coffee and refreshments. Bring your lunch and a friend, settle into a day of creativity, and enjoy the satisfaction of making something meaningful with your own hands.

Watercolour Beginner

Water colour beginner - washes and edges - learn the core techniques of watercolour.
Watercolour is all about control of the water on the brush, the pigment in your palette and the dampness of the paper. Only practice will guarantee good control of these elements. To make that practice fun we will use vibrant colours and make beautiful washes and soft edges. You will explore wet into wet technique, blend colours, and leave with a handful of paintings, some core knowledge and confidence for your watercolour journey.

Use your Camera

This 2 hour workshop will cover how to use your camera in manual settings.
No more using your camera on P for programme or A Auto!
I will go over the basic triangle of light coming into your camera ISO, FStop + Shutterspeed.
The following week there will be another workshop going over your manual settings on your camera and putting into practise what you have learnt.
You will need to bring your own camera.

Watercolour Landforms

Water colour landforms - follows from watercolour beginners and is for intermediate or advanced students.
Dramatic landforms catch the eye. Learn how to capture the light on the ridges and define the shadows in the valleys. You will refresh your knowledge of washes and edges, then use colours to create beautiful landscape paintings.
Charlotte will demonstrate her watercolour painting techniques using bright colours and good quality materials. The course will cover strategies for building a composition, delicate washes and how to achieve spatial depth in landscapes.

Ring Making

In this lost wax ring carving workshop, you’ll design and carve your own ring by hand in a relaxed, welcoming space. The perfect escape to unwind, connect and create yourself something truly unique.
No experience is needed, you will be guided through the process as your ideas take shape in wax, ready to be cast into the metal of choice and worn for years to come.
A mindful, creative and social experience perfect for friends, mothers and daughters, solo creatives, or anyone craving a little time to reconnect through creativity.

Life Drawing
Runs the last Saturday of the month, from June to November, 1pm - 3.30pm

Self directed, untutored art classes where you draw a nude or clothed model from life and hang out with other artists at the same time.

Weave Flax Containers

Ngā Ipu Harakeke - Harakeke Storage Containers
This workshop is designed for adults to create small, medium and large harakeke containers that have a four corner base.
It covers different techniques to finish off the top and make each one unique.
Harakeke is such a useful and abundant plant on the West Coast. Gain insight on harakeke varieties, selection, harvesting practices, tikanga Māori and tools used in weaving. Miro / Cord-making is part of the workshop so you can add handles to your basket if you want.
